About Me

J. Mark Fox

I have been the pastor of Antioch Community Church in Elon, NC for 26 years and in ministry for 30. My wife (Cindy) and I helped plant Antioch along with four other families. The church has gone through many changes over the years as the Lord has grown us up and taught us what a healthy church looks like, how to keep a church  healthy, and how to help other churches be healthy. Since 2006 we have planted three churches and helped many others through prayer, encouragement, books, and conferences. This podcast is another way that I, and Antioch, can help build and bless the body of Christ.

Cindy and I have seven children and three grandsons. Our oldest son is a deacon at Antioch. Our second son is the worship team leader at Antioch and will provide a “worship music feature” on the podcast periodically. My other children are all healthy believers, walking with the Lord and a part of the ministry of Antioch Community Church.

I teach Public Speaking at Elon University, a liberal-arts school in Elon, NC. I have taught there for twenty-three years, helping more then 2500 students learn the basics of what I believe is one of the most helpful and important tools for anyone to master: the ability to speak in public.

I write a weekly column for the Times-News, a daily in Burlington, NC. The column has won 5 Amy Awards, a national honor given for “thought-provoking, skillful presentation of biblical truth, reinforced with scripture in a mainstream, non-religious publication.”

My blog is at http://jmarkfox.com/.  I write about being a husband and father, pastor and professor, about discipleship, church life, culture, Christian worldview, and much more.

I have written six books, including my latest, A Faithful Man: Equipped to Lead as Prophet, Priest, Protector and Provider (2012). The book expresses my passion to help men be the leaders that God has created them to be. Walking in obedience to that calling, I believe, is a key to a church becoming healthy.

I believe in missions. It is also a key to a church being healthy. My “world vision” began with a trip to Haiti in 1983, followed by six other visits to that impoverished country. God has also allowed me to take teams to Haiti, Colombia, and several African countries. Most of my family ministered together in Colombia in 2011 and 2013, and I have been able to take six of my children to Africa so far to help me with pastors’ conferences, preach in the open air and minister to some of “the least of these.”

I hold a B.A. and M.A. from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and a M.Div. from Luther Rice Seminary.

Cindy and I will celebrate 32 years of marriage in June. We have run in several 5Ks together, and I have run 10Ks and Half-marathons (my favorite distance), too. I completed my second marathon in March, 2013. Several of our children have competed with us. Our family enjoys acting, running, sports, good movies, and having fun together. My passions also include preaching, writing, speaking, and missions.

Mom would be proud of you! Are you familiar with Dale Glading (Risk Takers for Christ) and Bob Williamson (Author of “Miracle on Lucky Street and founder/director of Honey Lake Resort and Ministries.)? Dale takes teams into prisons to play athletic events and then talk with them about Christ. He’s going soon to Kenya, so I introduced him to J.L. Bob is also looking to serve in other countries. Both are remarkable men. I wish you’d check them out. I cannot imagine what might come of such a combination of such proven, devoted, courageous Christian leaders! don kimrey
